As far as the Shambhala situation, I am not so knowledgeable, but the accusations and the outcomes point to the importance of adhering to proper and traditional ethics regarding the student - teacher relationship and the importance to conduct one's self with proper discernment in all things.
I'm a zen guy... Tibetan Vajrayana tradition is not foreign to me, as I have an affinity for Ksitigharbha (*Jizo Bodhisattva - the so-called prince of hell) But as to their politics... I'm not very knowledgeable.
